Preparing your dog for Anesthesia | Dogalize
In veterinary medicine, general anesthesia is used not only for surgery but also for other operations which may result annoying and scaring for your dog, such as x-ray and teeth cleaning.
- Keep your dog without food for at least 12 hours before anesthesia, since it may cause nausea and vomiting. Water can be drunk up to 2-4 hours before anesthesia.
- Keep calm and try not to get your dog anxious during the injection: cuddle him and use a soft tone of voice. Do the same when he wakes up.
- Do not get too close with your face to the dog until he’s completely awake, because he may not recognize you and, thus, bite.
Recovery time may change according to breed, age, constitution and health conditions.
