Skin Problems In Dogs

Skin Problems In Dogs | Dogalize

Skin problems are very common in dogs, because the skin is the largest organ and because it is a complex network of cells and tissues that continuously interact with the world inside and outside of a dog’s body.

Dermatitis often starts with an itch-scratch-itch cycle, although sometimes it only shows up as patchy hair loss. Affected dogs can develop hot spots, which are warm, swollen, painful areas that may stink and ooze pus. Sometimes, the reasons for dermatitis are never determined, which makes it an extremely frustrating condition for dog owners to deal with. Some causes of canine dermatitis include:

- Contact with irritating animal, vegetable or chemical substances
- Exposure to extreme heat, cold or humidity
- External parasite infestation (fleas; flies; ticks; mites; lice; maggots)
- Food allergies
- Malnutrition
- Infectious disease (bacterial; fungal; viral)
- Hormonal diseases

Skin problems can be prevented by the use of topical and environmental anti-parasitic medications and with a high-quality, well-balanced diet.

Since causes can largely vary,in case of dermatitis symptoms the best thing to do is asking your vet the most suitable treatment.
