Discover the World Record for the oldest living dog!
In average, a dog usually lives 8-15 years. It really crushes our heart to think that our four-legged companion will someday leave us. Now, some dogs get to live above 20 years, which is pretty impressive. The oldest living dog must be quite a gift to their owners.
Today, we will go through the Guinness record of the oldest dog to have ever lived.
The oldest living dog
Truth being told, the Guinness Book of World Records requires authentification of the date of birth of a dog in order to make it to the list. Hence, there are probably very old dogs over there that we might never hear about.
The honor of the oldest living dog belongs to Bluey, an Australian cattle dog who lived on a farm in Victoria, Australia. For nearly 20 years, this dog worked as a farm dog. He was obtained as a puppy in 1910. On November 14, 1939, Bluey was put to death at the age of 29 years, 5 months. That is more than 200 human years!
On April this year, Maggie the Kelpie, and Australian dog who coincidentally also lived in Victoria, died at age 30. That is one long life that ended peacefully when she passed out in her sleep.
“She was 30 years old, she was still going along nicely last week, she was walking from the dairy to the office and growling at the cats and all that sort of thing,” owner Brian McLaren said to the newspapers then. Unfortunately, the farmer lost the original paperwork to independently verify Maggie’s age, so she could not make it to the Book of Records.
So, to this day, the official honor still belongs to our big mutt, Bluey. Cheers to living a fulfilling and happy life!
