Spring Safety Tips For Your Pets | Dogalize
Spring has finally come! Birds are chirping, flowers are blooming, temperatures are rising, days are lenghtening: spring is the perfect season to spend time with your dog. However, springtime brings about certain health concerns. Here are some tips to enjoy spring season safely.
Beware of ticks, fleas and mosquitoes, as they begin to spread and become more active in the wormer months. Mosquitoes can transmit heartworm desease, it is important to give your dog a preventive medication. As regards ticks and fleas, there are a variety of products available to combat these nuisances, so ask your veterinarian which one is best for your dog. Start early as preventing ticks and fleas from becoming a problem is far easier than dealing with a major flea infestation.
Make sure your dog’s vaccinations are up to date. Dog to dog contact increases in the spring and continues on into the summer months. Your dog is exposed to more infectious diseases during this time of year.
Watch out with spring cleaning. Be aware that many household cleaning products are harmful to dogs so follow instructions as posted on the label and store all chemicals out of reach when not in use.
Watch out with the gardening, because some plants may be dangerous for your dog. Avoid planting toxic bulbs such as hyacinths, tulips, daffodils and certain lilies. Fertilizers and mulch can be toxic as well so store them in an inaccessible area.
Keep in mind these little (but very important) things and enjoy springtime with a lot of walks, play and love!
