Origins
The exact origins of the Poodle dog are a bit blurry. It is clear, though, that he was developed to hunt waterfowl. So, as hard to believe as it might seem, this dog would jump into the water and fetch waterfowl for hunters.
There are many theories surrounding its origins. Some say it is the result of crossing several European water dogs. Others claim that he is a descendant of the North African Barbet. It is also believed that they descend from Asian herding dogs.
They were not very common in the United States until after World War II. Starting by the mid-1950s, the Poodle became the country´s most popular dog. He is presently in the 8th place of popularity.
