Gabe the Dog: the king of the Internet!
Gabe the dog was a miniature American Eskimo/Pomeranian mix who became an internet meme sensation after his owner posted videos of him barking.
So this is how the Internet works. First, the Internet loves dogs and cats, or in their own lingo, “doges” and “cates”. You can also add up some “sneks” (snakes) and some other “nopes” (any vicious critter capable of scaring the life out of us) unto the list. Then, somebody posts a really funny or unusual video of one of these doing something really funny and, bam! Internet fame around the corner. This is no different from the story of our dog in question in this post: Gabe the dog.
The dog
Let us begin with what we are probably most concerned about and that is the dog. Gabe the dog is a hybrid between an Eskimo dog and a Pomeranian. The owner is a youtuber that goes by the username “deathtrips”. Not much is known about Gabe the dog, except that he does what dogs do: bark, sneeze, and gag. Interestingly, these were the things that made him an internet meme sensation.
The video
It all began back in 2013 when youtuber “deathtrips” uploaded a video of a Miniature American Eskimo/Pomeranian mix barking in a rather demanding way. The barking, which went on to be known as “borking” became music to the Internet and then crazy unleashed. The original videos of Gabe the dog “borking” had a decent amount of views, but it was what followed that broke the internet.
The rise of Gabe the Dog
So people started to take the original video of Gabe the dog barking and started remixing it in various ways. These videos were uploaded to the YouTube’s section known as YouTube Poop Music videos. However, Gabe’s remixes were so special that they had their own name: “Bork Remixes“.
One of the most famous videos of this kind was one uploaded by YouTuber “shaleik” and called “Dog Pleasure Night”, which has more than 746,000 views. But Gabe the dog has not only being used for musical videos. There are so many memes and videos out there inspired by him that it would take us a lot of space to mention them, let alone explain them.
The sensation created by Gabe the dog went far and beyond musical videos. He has a Facebook page and there is merchandise themed on the dog. This is another demonstration of how silly the Internet somehow gets and how a simple dog can produce in all of us sensations that we did not even imagine he would.
The fall of Gabe the Dog
Maybe we are not properly honoring Gabe’s memory by saying that it was a fall. But the truth is that, like the most of the Internet, our hearts sank in when on February 20, 2017, Gabe the dog‘s owners announced on Facebook that he had passed away. The legend had left us but his legacy will stay in the indelible letters of the Internet. Rest in peace, our dear friend.
