Peanut Dog – The World’s Ugliest dog

At least he was back in 2014. Over two years ago, Peanut, an abused dog was selected as the world’s ugliest dog at the Sonoma-Marin Fair’s contest in Petaluma, California. Peanut dog won the contest back then due to the first impression he portrayed.

About the contest

Every year, the Sonoma-Marin Fair’s contest in Petaluma, California holds the annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest. It usually takes place in Summer. Participants from many places bring their ugly pooches to win the crown for the best. The judges’ criteria that the contest uses to determine which is the ugliest one are:

  • first impression
  • unusual attributes
  • natural ugliness
  • personality
  • audience impression

Peanut, a pretty ugly and sweet dog

Peanut, our dog in question, winner of the 26th edition of the contest, is a victim of animal abuse and his scars are a result of a fire, according to his owner, Holly Chandler of Greenville, N.C.

He doesn’t have lips anymore,” Chandler explains. “His eyelids are also gone, and so he can’t close his eye, therefore, his eyes water. The tears drain into his nose and so he has nice little snot bubbles because of it. So it’s great, that adds to his character.”

Chandler has used the $1500 prize to pay for Peanut’s veterinary expenses and to raise awareness against animal abuse. Peanut dog is probably a Chihuahuashih-tzu mix, but it is unclear.

It is all about inner beauty

The real purpose of this contest is to point out that when it comes to dogs, no matter their imperfections on the outside, they are still lovable, adoptable, and capable of giving love. Peanut is definitively a beautiful dog who is willing to give all his love to his owner.
