Cat breeds: the Raas cat characteristics and behavior

The Raas cat is a domestic cat originated in the Indonesian island of Raas.  They are an endemic cat breed, meaning that, unless you live in Indonesia or plan to make a trip there, you will probably not come across one.

Origins

This leopard-looking cat evolved in a region in Raas Island known as Madura, in Indonesia.  How these cats came to be is unknown.  However, they are an authentic genetically pure animal with not crossing between any other cats. Yet, they display genetic variation.  The Raas cat probably originated naturally.

Some experts place the race Korat as the ancestor of the Raas cat, especially those with a bluish coloration.  The shape of their tail suggests that the Raas may have also originated from the Asian race.

Physical characteristics

This is a medium-sized cat that has the looks of a leopard or jungle cat.  They have a body size larger than the average cat.  Their dark green eyes are embedded in a square head.  The tail is of medium size and bends at the end.  The color of the coat is plain solid color with blue, gray, or chocolate hue.  Brown is also possible but very rarely.

Personality

Raas cats are energetic and playful.  However, due to their nature, they do not have an easy time getting along with humans.  Even when you find the way to tame one, they will still be the type that does not only live to please their owners.  Basically, they are moody cats with a primitive nature, therefore, it is hard to determine what training methods will work on each.  If you are planning to train this cat, you should cover yourself with gallons of patience they are usually stubborn and grumpy.

Caring for a Raas cat

Use a soft brush to groom their hair once or twice a week.  As with activity, these cats need a lot of exercise.  Allow them to walk free around the house, running, sprinting, and getting in trouble  If you will take them outdoors, put them on a leash.  Fail to do this and you might lose control of this feral feline.
