Yes, you guessed it. The Goldendoodle dog is a designer dog that results from the crossing between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. This beautiful crossbreed is rapidly increasing its popularity.
Origins
The breeding of the Goldendoodle dog began in the 1990s. The original idea of American and Australian breeders who started the crossing was to obtain a dog that was low shedding and with the friendly nature of the Golden Retriever. This was needed to help visually impaired individuals with allergies.
Physical characteristics
The size of a Goldendoodle dog varies depending on the size of the parent poodle. They are three different coat types. The straight coat makes him look more like a retriever. The wavy coat is a mix of the Retriever´s straight coat the Poodle’s curls. The last one, the curly coat comes from the Poodle.
An adult dog will weigh between 60 and 100 pounds. A medium dog will weigh between 30 and 45 pounds while the small version can be somewhere between 15 and 30 pounds. The standard states that their height should be 24 to 26 inches for males and 22 to 23 inches for the female.
Personality
This dog has many good personality traits. He is accepting, friendly, and intelligent. He makes a wonderful companion due to his gentle, patient, and affectionate nature. If you train him properly, he can be very obedient. He loves to be with his family so he will rather be at home with his loved ones that left on its own in a backyard.
He is not a noisy dog and definitively not a watch dog. He will not bark even if someone approaches the door.
Caring for a Goldendoodle dog
This dog is average in energy level and will require from 20 to 30 minutes of daily exercise. He loves water so swimming can be a great opportunity for exercise. This dog can grow to be very large, so if you have one such dog, apartment life might not be the best. He is a none to light shedder but requires some grooming at least once a week.
Training
The Goldendoodle is typically easy to train. He is highly intelligent and eager to please. Use positive reinforcement and avoid harsh treatments.
