What is the best cat food? Discover it on Dogalize!
Looking for what cat food to feed your cat? Let us give you hand on making that choice. We do recommend you to follow your veterinarian‘s advice on what the best option for your cat is. One thing that you probably know already is that cats are very vocal about what you put in their bowl. According to Julie A. Churchill, DVM, Ph.D., associate professor of nutrition at the University Of Minnesota College Of Veterinary Medicine in St. Paul, “Cats are very opinionated about food, and a lot of their food preferences are formed in the first year.”
A balanced diet
There are a lot of brands out there and people tend to focus on the ingredients instead of focusing on what is most important: the nutrients. Among these nutrients, fats and proteins are the most important, especially given that cats are carnivores.
This does not mean that you should dismiss carbohydrates. If cat´s food is only proteins and fats, it can get pricey. Carbohydrates are not bad altogether, they help hold dry food together and cats like the crunch. As long as it is provided in amounts a cat can handle, it should be ok.
Very importantly, for a statement in the label from the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). It will say that the food is complete and will mean that your cat does not need any vitamins.
The right amount
Since cats are mostly nocturnal, dawn and dusk are the times in which they would normally be hunting. These are usually their feeding times. The amount of cat food your cat requires will depend on age, size, and level of activity. The average is around 200 calories. You should ask your vet what amount of cat food is the best.
Giving your pet too much cat food can also be counterproductive. Usually, cats will eat everything that is put in their bowl. Make sure you are able to measure the proper amount of food you give to your feline.
