The plot
The main story in the musical is about a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night in which they do what they call “the Jellicle choice”. In this event, they will decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and return to a new life.
The performance begins with a white cat named Victoria who dances signaling “The Invitation to the Jellicle Ball”. A large grey tabby, Munkustrap then proceeds to explain how cats gather every year to celebrate. The cats are waiting for Old Deuteronomy, their leader to decide which Jellicle cat will travel to the Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a new cat.
Next, all the cats journey into the stage introducing themselves, including the villain Macavity, which makes the Jellicles scatter at once. At the conclusion, Grizabella, a cat that used to be shunned by the rest, is chosen to Journey to the Heaviside Layer and be reborn.
