Big the Cat is a purple anthropomorphic cat from the Sonic the Hedgehog series.  He lives in the depths of the Mystic Ruins where he spends most of his time fishing in the company of his buddy, Froggy.

This is one peaceful and friendly cat that prefers the quiet of his home to a wild adventure.  However, if any of his friends are in danger, mostly his best friend Froggy, he will not hesitate to go on a quest to recover them.

Big is the largest and heaviest non-metallic character of the series.  He is also the bearer of one of the seven Chaos Emeralds, which he refers to as his “lucky charm”.

History of Big the Cat

One day Big the Cat was peacefully sleeping in his hut.  When he woke up he learned that Froggy, his best friend had swallowed his yellow Chaos Charm.  Froggy saw he had grown a tail and ran out of panic, causing Big to go on a quest to find him.

Big went through all Starion Square, he finally found Froggy on Emerald Coast, but E-102 Gamma, a robot created by Eggman took hold of Froggy.  Big unsuccessfully asked the robot to give Froggy back.

Later, Big got on board of the Egg Carrier to meet with his friend again.  Several adventures ensued, including being taken to the past by Tikal.

On the above quest, the player participates in a fishing mini-game in each level.  Big the Cat reunites with Froggy after Sonic defeats Chaos, which had absorbed Froggy for the use of his Emerald.

Big also plays a major role in Sonic heroes, where he acts as the “Power character” along Cream the Rabbit and Amy Rose in “Team Rose”.   In this game, he also finds himself searching for Froggy again, and eventually retrieves him from a defeated Eggman.
