What is Frontline Plus for Dogs?

Frontline Plus is a monthly topical prevention treatment against ticks and fleas. It kills 100% of adult fleas within the first 24 hours and the 100% of adult ticks in the first 48 hours after the application. The active ingredient in this medication is S-methoprene, an insect growth regulator that kills flea eggs and larvae.

It is sold in boxes of 3, 6, and 12 applicators-one every month. You can apply it to puppies after 8 months of age.

Benefits of Frontline Plus for Dogs

  • Each application provides one month of protection.
  • Kills all fleas in your dog in 24 hours.
  • It is waterproof so you can apply it to swimming pets. (Wait until the application is fully dry-usually 24 hours-before letting your dog get in the water.)
  • Effective at killing ticks and chewing lice as well.
  • It also helps control sarcoptic mange in dog skin.

How do you apply Frontline Plus for Dogs?

The application of the cream is fairly easy:

  • Step 1.  Remove the applicator from the child-safe package.  Snip the foil with a scissor or just pull the tab.
  • Step 2. Find a spot between your dog’s shoulder blades and part his hair in that spot.
  • Step 3.  Apply all the contents of the applicator on that spot and let it dry.  Do not apply the medication to the hair and make sure your dog is not able to lick it away.

Some Cautions

Make sure you apply the medication on one spot only. Do not over apply. If you miss some days and get past the monthly application date, just apply it as soon as you remember. Do not apply two. If you accidentally overdose, call your veterinarian immediately.

Your dog might experience some irritation on the skin. If the problem persists, consult with your veterinarian.
