
Hotel for Dogs: A film to watch with the family
If you love dogs, you will definitively love “Hotel for Dogs“, a 2009 American comedy featuring our best friends: dogs! The film is based on the novel of the same title written by Lois Duncan in 1971. The movie stars Emma Roberts, Jake T. Austin, Troy Gentile, Kyla Pratt, Johnny Simons, Lisa Kudrow, Kevin Dillion, Don Cheadle and is directed by Thor Fredeuntal.
The plot
The movie tells the story of two orphans, Andi (Emma Roberts) and Bruce (Jake T. Austin) who con a pawn shop owner in order to get money to buy food for their dog, Friday. They are caught and taken to the station where they get picked up by social worker Bernie Wilkins (Don Cheadle) who takes them back to their not-so-loving foster parents, Lois and Carl Scudder (Lisa Kudrow and Kevin Dillon).
The next morning, Friday, decides to go look for food and is caught by Animal Control. Andi and Bruce go on to look for him in the pounds. They realize that Friday has hidden in an abandoned hotel, along with a tiny Boston Terrier and an English Mastiff, who they call Georgia and Lenny. They decide to leave them in the abandoned hotel for the night.
The next day, Bruce decides to stay with the dogs to keep them quiet while Andi is at the pet shop looking for food. Once there she lies to the employees telling them that their parents often rescue dogs. This makes the two employees beg Andi to take three dogs that noboby wants to adopt and she reluctantly agrees. With six dogs to care for, things get interesting for this orphans as adventure and comic situations ensue.
Reception of Hotel for Dogs
When “Hotel for Dogs” opened in the United States on January 16, 2009, it earned $17,012,212 in its opening weekend, positioning itself in the fifth one for that weekend. The movie has received mixed reviews, many of them stating that the story is nice but it is predictable. We recommend it for you to watch with your family.
