Dog breeds: choose the best for you

They say that a dog looks like its owner. Well, we will take that a little further and say that a dog should look like its owner. Dog breeds differ in personalities. It is funny that throughout our descriptions of each dog breed, we mention it as a personality when the word itself seems to imply that it is pertaining to a person.

But with a variety of physical traits also comes a variety of ways of behaving and responding to stimuli. Throughout years of breeding, dog breeds have developed certain behavior and passed it on to their offspring all the way to what we have today. This behavior is usually determined by the purpose or tasks a particular breed was developed for.

Do not miss our posts.

Today, if you plan on getting a purebred dog, you can more easily make a selection of which dog breeds are best for you. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a quiz that helps you determine what is your psychological type. Each type consists of four letters. These letters are: Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I), Sensing (S) or Intuition (N), Thinking (T) or Feeling (F), and Judging (J) or Perceiving (P).

There are 16 possible personality types. Let´s take a look at them and determine what type of dog matches each one.

INTP- Logician

These people are very curious and smart. They possess an unrelenting logic and love of patterns. We can think of the standard Poodle and the Chow Chow.

INTJ – Architect

These are smart and independent. Dog breeds matching this personality have a mind of their own. Place the Siberian Husky and the Jack Russel Terrier here.

INFP – Mediator

Trademarks here are loyalty and aloofness towards strangers. These people prefer a small group they can trust than a whole bunch of friends. Shiba Inus have this reserved character and the Tibetan Terrier can grow very affectionate once it´s gained confidence. Both are aloof dogs.

INFJ – Advocate

Strong will, intelligent, and loyal. The Beagle and Australian Shepherd fit here.

ISTP – Virtuous

Learned by doing type and will easily get bored. Love to explore and are energetic. Such as the Black Russian Terrier and Rhodesian Ridgeback.

ISTJ – Logistician

These take responsibility for their actions and can be the workaholic type. The Border Collie and the Pekingese are great matches for this type.

ISFP – Sensitive

These are sensitive and aware of their surroundings. They mind their own thoughts and can stay in one spot meditating, just like the Australian Shepherd and the Shiba Inu.

ISFJ – Protector

The motto here is “if I can protect you, I will”. Take the Newfoundland and the German Shepherd here.

ENTP – Debater

Determined, energetic, and willing to learn something new, like the Labrador. A bit stubborn, like the French Bulldog.

Not only social but an adventurer. The French Bulldog is a loving of everyone and Labrador Retrievers are always up for an adventure.

ENFJ – Main Characters

These will always hold themselves accountable for their acts. Incredibly loyal and friendly, like the Rough Collie and the Golden Retriever.

ESTP – Adventurer

Always willing to explore and go on adventures. These fearless ones will always go independently to an adventure. Bring the Beagle and the Rhodesian Ridgeback here.

ESTJ – Executive

Strong believers in a line of authority they also believe that respect must be earned. They like challenging projects and expect to see the same hard work they put into things. The breeds of dogs that match these traits are the German Shepherd and the Siberian Husky.

ESFP – Happy

These are always happy and want to make sure everyone else is. The Flat-coated Retriever is happy and carefree and the Corgi, well, just look at that constantly smiling face!
